This Board makes recommendations regarding the development of the book collection, programming, and other services provided by the Oakmont Carnegie Library. The board also updates the Long-Range Plan for the Library annually, and serves to promote library programs and services in the community.
The history of the Oakmont Carnegie Library finds its beginning in the late 1800’s when the Oakmont School Board acted on a resolution providing a place and free public library services, for the use by its residents. Through the years the School Board oversaw the staffing and maintenance of the Library, then in 1966, that changed when the Borough of Oakmont assumed control of the library. The value of the library to the community was recognized by Council and in 1969, created a Library board to oversee, operate, and maintain the library.
